Wimbledon starts today so I thought I would take a look at some of the Stars and their pooches. Serena and Venus Williams, Andy Roddick, Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray and Maria Sharapova all have something in common, and it isn’t just tennis – they all love their dogs!.

Serena Williams has two dogs, a Jack Russell terrier named Jackie and a Maltese named Lorelei. She has been quoted as saying “I just love animals. I always think when I get older I’m going to live on a farm and have 50 dogs. I just love dogs.”

Novak Djokovic’s Poodle Pierre is almost as famous as his World No. 1-ranked dad. He has his own Twitter page ‘@pierredjoko and has posed with Djokovic for the cover of Vogue. This pair are inseparable and it is reported Pierre has no less than three pet passports

Serena’s older sister Venus has three dogs: two Cavalier King Charles spaniels and a Havanese named Harold “You’re out there on your own and you need a friend who’s there for you – wins, losses – and who really cares for you,” she has been quoted as saying “I’ve recently found that someone, and that’s Harold.”

A few years ago Maria Sharapova starred in a series of Canon PowerShot TV spots featuring a caramel-coated Pomeranian named Dolce. While the dog in the commercials was an actor, Sharapova really does own a Pomeranian named Dolce

Andy Roddick named his English bulldog Billie Jean after the tennis legend Billie Jean King. He shares the pup with his supermodel wife, Brooklyn Decker. The couple spends a great deal of quality time with Billie, but sometimes it just isn’t possible. “You know, we’ve had to keep up her self-esteem, because the airlines have deemed her too fat to fit on a plane,” Roddick t”So we have to constantly shower her with love and build up that self-esteem and tell her she’s beautiful.” Aww!

Andy Murray’s Border terrier Maggie May is another pup with a twitter account and she also “writes a column for The Tennis space along with his other BT Rusty, she has even accompanied Andy to the French open in the past and the two dogs have been photographed wearing Andy’s gold medals.

Another British star Laura Robson has two Labradors “I love being at Wimbledon and in the evening if I’ve had a pretty hectic day I get to go home to my dogs,” the teenager once said.

Martina Navratilova’s KD (for Killer Dog). According to the New York Times, when KD travelled the world with Navratilova, he used to sit on a pillow in the players’ lounge during matches. “You’re trying to bring some kind of normalcy to a very abnormal lifestyle – some kind of consistency and constancy,” Navratilova said of having a dog in her entourage.
